Faculty of General Medicine (MD/MBBS)

Specialise in Surgery, therapy, gynaecology, psychology, pathoanatomy, otorhinolaryngology and neuropathology. Primal target of the university is to provide the knowledge in development and prophylactic of diagnose, healthcare, analysing and collecting the information of planning, organising the system of healthcare and scientific research.

Faculty of Medical Psychology

Faculty Of General Medicine (MBBS)

The NSMU opened its doors to international students in the year 2000, but the institution had already welcomed its first overseas students from Syria, Pakistan, and India in 1991–1992. India, Pakistan, Ukraine, Belarus, Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Palestine, Syria, Jordan, Angola, Cameroon, Zambia, Nigeria, and Peru are just a few of the nations that the students represent.

Students of International faculty gets the education in General Medicine. In last year of MBBS they choose the specialization which can be in the field of surgery, pediatric etc.

The period of study of General Medicine lasts for 5.8years. On graduation students gets the qualification of General Practitioner. It is necessary to study 41 subjects to appear in 32 examinations and 34 tests. To become a specialist one has to go through the initial one year specialization in internship or 2 years advanced training at the Faculty of Postgraduate Education in NSMU.

Students gets practical experience during their study periods in many of the city hospitals and polyclinics.

The curriculum of medical students consist of 6 years of study with "subject-oriented" approach.

The first two years involves courses in the fundamental theoretical subjects. (Medical Terminology, First Aid, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biology, Anatomy, Histology, Embryology, Neuroscience & Physiology).

The 3rd year includes subjects of preclinical education (Pathological Anatomy, Pathological Physiology, Immunology, Microbiology, Community Medicine); and courses providing training in practical skills, prior to clinical phase are also included (Clinical Examination in Internal Medicine and Clinical Examination in Surgery).

4th & 5th years consists of clinical subjects (Pharmacology, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Gynecology, Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Neurology, Psychiatry, Dermatovenerology, Opthalmology, ENT, Orthopedics, Forensic Medicine, Preventive Medicine, Oncology & Intensive Care Medicine).

The 6th year is an internship in Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics & Family Medicine.

The tuition during the pre clinical part is organized as a schedule of various classes. Examinations are only taken during term end. Tuition of clinical subjects are organized into one or two weeks blocks. The seminars both theoretical and practical, including simulation and bed side teaching are concentrating in the morning blocks with a daily duration of hours. The curriculum also contains obligatory practical training during summer holidays at the 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th years. The final phase of evaluation "State Doctoral Examination" consists of 3 stages- Test- Theoretical Exam- Practical Examination. All the exams are held in English.

There are several courses at the Faculty for doctors to improve their qualification. The main tasks of these courses are to satisfy the

needs of specialists in receiving the knowledge about the latest achievements in the corresponding branch of science and leading foreign experience, and in improving their professional skills.

Hostel

The students are provided with accommodation facilities in Northern State Medical University. The hostel rooms are fully furnished with study table & chair, wardrobe, beds and shelfs.

The occupancy of rooms depends upon the size of the room. Rooms are shared between 2/3/4 students depending upon the availability.

Each toilet & bathroom is shared by the students of two rooms.

There is a common laundry and kitchen in the hostel. Rooms are separate for girls and boys. Rooms also have an internet connection. There are also sports grounds, a gym as well as a canteen with an assembly hall.

All hostels are equipped with video surveillance and fire safety systems.

Arkhangelsk City

Arkhangelsk northernmost city of European Russia, which encompasses the Komi Republic, the Karelia Republic, Murmansk, and Vologda oblasts. Due to its location near the mouth of the Northern Dvina River and on both of its banks, the city has numerous bridges within its boundaries.

It is nowadays a modern city with an important historical centre and unique wooden architecture. The flight from Moscow to Arkhangelsk takes about two hours, a journey by train – about 22 hours, with an outstanding view on Russian winter. Arkhangelsk is also a touristic place where people come to see northern lights here between mid-September and late March each year.
